# Save keyword ideas

> Build a free research shortlist before promoting keywords to tracking.

Saved is a shortlist between keyword Research and ongoing rank tracking. A saved keyword
keeps the metrics snapshot, source search, and location from the research run without
creating a tracked keyword or scheduling provider checks.

## Save from Research

1. Open **Research** and run a keyword search.
2. Select **Save for later** on one result, or select several results and use
   **Save N for later**.
3. Follow **View in Keywords / Saved** from the confirmation, or open **Keywords** and
   select the **Saved** tab.

Saving the same normalized keyword and location again does not create a duplicate.
Already tracked results remain tracked instead of appearing as saved.

## Promote saved ideas to tracking

In **Keywords / Saved**, use a row's **Track now** action or select several rows and
choose **Track N**. Review the prefilled location and schedule in the add-keyword drawer,
then confirm the tracking cost.

After tracking succeeds, those rows leave Saved automatically and appear on the
**Tracked** tab. Tracking starts the configured provider-check schedule; saving alone
never runs checks.

## Understand snapshot staleness

Volume, keyword difficulty, CPC, intent, and trend are snapshots from the research run.
They do not refresh automatically because refreshing research consumes provider budget.

After 30 days, the Saved table marks a snapshot as getting stale. Use the source link to
reopen the original seed and location in Research when you want current metrics. A stale
snapshot is still available to export or promote.

## Saved keywords and Saved views

Saved keywords are individual research ideas that are not tracked yet. **Saved views**
store a reusable filter and table scope for tracked keywords without saving or copying
any keyword.

See [Use saved views](/docs/docs/guides/saved-views) for reusable tracked-keyword table
configurations.
